We are seeking a Critical Facilities Engineer to operate and maintain critical mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems in our supercomputing data centers. The engineer will troubleshoot complex issues, optimize processes, and support the reliability of HVAC, power, and environmental controls while collaborating with cross‑functional teams and mentoring junior technicians. Strong engineering principles, documentation, troubleshooting, communication, and safety compliance are essential, as well as the ability to work flexible 24/7 shifts and travel up to 10%.

Requirements

Skills

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Electrical engineering or 6+ years of hands‑on operations/facilities experience (data center experience preferred)
  • Knowledge of mechanical or electrical engineering principles and systems
  • Experience with all critical systems documentation including plans, procedures, and operations manuals
  • Experience with building and electrical power monitoring systems and operations
  • Strong troubleshooting skills
  • Experience with PLC-based control systems and/or Building Management Systems
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and technical writing skills in English
  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs, use hand and power tools, work in tight quarters, at heights up to 100 ft, and in extreme outdoor environments
  • Availability to work flexible shifts for 24x7 coverage, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Subject to pre-employment drug and background checks
  • Willing to travel up to 10%
  • Valid driver’s license

Responsibilities

  • Independently operate and maintain critical MEP systems in supercomputing data centers, ensuring high reliability and performance through hands‑on maintenance, troubleshooting, and process optimization.
  • Perform advanced maintenance and troubleshooting of critical data center systems such as HVAC, power, and environmental controls, while mentoring junior technicians.
  • Oversee maintenance and optimization of critical data center infrastructure, including power, cooling, and environmental systems, leading a team of technicians.
  • Ensure MEP infrastructure site safety and environmental compliance with local and regional health and safety requirements.
  • Provide operational expertise for MEP systems at the data center facility, including pumps, piping, chillers, cooling towers, CRAH units, wiring, lighting systems, generators, motors, water supply, UPS, and switchgear.
  • Routinely inspect all areas to maintain performance measures and proactively report facility issues.
  • Write and execute MOPs, SOPs, and EOPs.
  • Perform daily inspections of critical systems.
  • Identify and maintain spare parts inventory to minimize downtime.
  • Coordinate and supervise scheduled system shutdowns.
  • Develop and implement energy monitoring metrics.
  • Support commissioning efforts by witnessing equipment startup, assisting with functional testing, and monitoring construction progress.
