xAI seeks a Controls Technician to support the implementation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of control systems for its data centers and infrastructure. The role involves hands‑on work with BMS, EPMS, SCADA systems, PLCs, and other industrial controls to ensure reliable operation of critical systems such as cooling, power distribution, and safety protocols. The technician will collaborate with engineers to maintain automated controls, monitor performance, and respond to operational needs in a fast‑paced environment.

Requirements

Skills

  • Associate's Degree in a technical field (e.g., Controls Technology, Mechatronics, Automation, or equivalent experience).
  • 3+ years of hands‑on experience as a technician working with industrial control systems.
  • Experience with Ignition SCADA or similar programming.
  • Familiarity with Siemens TIA Portal or equivalent PLC programming.
  • Ability to work extended periods standing, in tight quarters, and exposed to noise.
  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Ability to lift or carry 10-15lbs.
  • Subject to pre‑employment drug testing and random drug/alcohol testing.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the implementation and modification of BMS, EPMS, and SCADA systems for data centers, following engineer specifications.
  • Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting of critical systems (e.g., chillers, pumps, power distribution) using PLCs and industrial control technologies.
  • Support the preparation and updating of HMI graphics and interfaces for system monitoring.
  • Maintain automated controls for fire safety and emergency shutdown procedures (ESOP).
  • Help monitor and report on key metrics like PUE and infrastructure performance via dashboards.
  • Coordinate with teams to respond to utility grid events and adjust systems as needed.
