- 5+ years operating large-scale production networks – data center fabrics (spine‑leaf, Clos), backbone/WAN, or hyperscaler‑adjacent environments
- Understand how traffic moves through the network
- Know at least one major CSP’s networking model (AWS or GCP)
- Built or operated network telemetry at scale (gNMI/OpenConfig, sFlow, IPFIX, NetFlow, or eBPF‑based host instrumentation)
- Comfortable writing Python or Go for tooling, telemetry pipelines, and automation
- Think quantitatively, using notebooks or Grafana queries to build cost models
- Communicate clearly with finance and engineering stakeholders
Responsibilities
- Develop workload network profiles to characterize bandwidth, latency, and cross‑cloud traffic patterns
- Build or extend the network observability stack using telemetry pipelines (sFlow/IPFIX, gNMI, eBPF host probes)
- Attribute usage and cost, collaborating on a network usage data model
- Size capacity and forecast interconnect, egress, and intra‑DC bandwidth needs
- Identify efficiency opportunities by analyzing traffic patterns and quantifying dollar impact
- Influence decisions across teams (research, finance, systems networking) to drive network improvements
- Automate intent‑based network configuration and tooling for safe, reviewable changes
