Anthropic’s Capacity & Efficiency team seeks a network engineer with strong networking expertise and a metrics‑driven mindset to optimize network utilization and cost across multi‑cloud environments. The role involves designing and building observability stacks, modeling capacity, and driving efficiency improvements while collaborating with cross‑functional teams.

Requirements

Skills

  • 5+ years operating large-scale production networks – data center fabrics (spine‑leaf, Clos), backbone/WAN, or hyperscaler‑adjacent environments
  • Understand how traffic moves through the network
  • Know at least one major CSP’s networking model (AWS or GCP)
  • Built or operated network telemetry at scale (gNMI/OpenConfig, sFlow, IPFIX, NetFlow, or eBPF‑based host instrumentation)
  • Comfortable writing Python or Go for tooling, telemetry pipelines, and automation
  • Think quantitatively, using notebooks or Grafana queries to build cost models
  • Communicate clearly with finance and engineering stakeholders

Responsibilities

  • Develop workload network profiles to characterize bandwidth, latency, and cross‑cloud traffic patterns
  • Build or extend the network observability stack using telemetry pipelines (sFlow/IPFIX, gNMI, eBPF host probes)
  • Attribute usage and cost, collaborating on a network usage data model
  • Size capacity and forecast interconnect, egress, and intra‑DC bandwidth needs
  • Identify efficiency opportunities by analyzing traffic patterns and quantifying dollar impact
  • Influence decisions across teams (research, finance, systems networking) to drive network improvements
  • Automate intent‑based network configuration and tooling for safe, reviewable changes
