As a Staff Software Engineer on the Billing Platform, you will design and ship end‑to‑end billing capabilities, build for correctness and reliability, own critical interfaces, and collaborate with Finance, Product, Sales, and Accounting to scale revenue systems. This role requires deep experience in backend platform development, leadership on large‑scale projects, and a passion for data integrity in financial contexts.

Skills

  • 8+ years building backend or platform systems in production
  • 3+ years leading large‑scale, complex projects or teams as an engineer or tech lead
  • Track record of shipping in fast‑moving environments with shifting requirements
  • Strong focus on correctness and data integrity in financial systems
  • Experience working cross‑functionally with Product, Finance, Sales, and Legal
  • Built billing, payments, subscription, or fintech systems before
  • Direct experience integrating or extending third‑party billing and payment platforms
  • Worked on revenue reconciliation, financial reporting pipelines, or audit‑ready systems
  • Experience with enterprise commerce (CPQ, quote‑to‑cash, contract management)
  • Payments optimization in self‑serve or PLG environments, including authorization rates, payment cost, fraud, and chargebacks

Responsibilities

  • Design and ship billing capabilities end to end—including pricing primitives, payment flows, contract and entitlement models, and revenue data pipelines
  • Build for correctness first, ensuring idempotency, reconciliation, and audit trails
  • Own the interfaces for billing API and revenue datasets, designing robust contracts
  • Make build‑vs‑buy decisions for third‑party billing, payment, and tax platforms
  • Own the payments stack, handling authorization, retry logic, processing cost, dispute response, and fraud controls
  • Drive down manual work by streamlining enterprise contract amendments, pricing config changes, and billing support escalations
  • Operate shipped systems, owning SLOs, instrumenting revenue pipelines, and responding to incidents
  • Partner across the company with Growth, Sales, Finance, and product teams to align needs
