The role is for a Staff+ Software Engineer in the Platform organization at Anthropic, based in San Francisco, CA. Requirements

Skills

  • Minimum of 8 years of practical experience as a backend or platform engineer building scalable distributed systems, ideally at a tech lead level or equivalent.
  • Strong fundamentals in service‑oriented architectures, networking, and systems design, having owned both the technical vision and execution of a foundational platform system end‑to‑end.
  • Proficiency in Python, Go, Rust, or similar systems languages.
  • Experience with cloud infrastructure (GCP, AWS, or Azure), container orchestration (Kubernetes), and/or multi‑cloud networking.
  • Full ownership of work from design through deployment and operations.
  • Ability to navigate ambiguity and make sound technical decisions independently, with experience in 0‑to‑1 and more mature team or company settings.
  • Product‑focused approach to platform work, building robust, scalable, and easy‑to‑use solutions.
  • Passion for building systems that other engineers love to use.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain the core infrastructure that powers Anthropic's engineering organization, including service mesh, observability systems, deployment pipelines, and shared libraries.
  • Develop and maintain multicloud infrastructure, enabling Anthropic to operate across multiple cloud providers with cloud‑agnostic tooling, cross‑cloud networking, and multi‑region deployments.
  • Own and enhance connectivity components such as the MCP proxy, OAuth and token management, and the official Python and TypeScript SDKs to keep connections authenticated and reliable.
  • Transform the Claude API into a cloud‑native, managed product that runs cross‑cloud and on Anthropic's own infrastructure, ensuring enterprise‑grade security, compliance, and operational capabilities.
  • Build and operate billing platform infrastructure that converts product usage into revenue across Anthropic's services, collaborating with Finance, Product, Sales, and Accounting.
  • Build and run secure execution environments for Claude's agentic capabilities, focusing on containerized workloads and security at scale.
