We are hiring an Associate Support Engineer to build a career with Canonical and support the technical needs of customers leveraging Ubuntu and open source products. The role is globally remote, requiring hands‑on engineering skills, passion for Linux and open source technologies, and a strong customer‑facing mindset. The engineer will triage complex cloud environments, desktop and server issues, kernel crashes, and configuration problems, managing end‑to‑end case resolution, contributing to knowledge bases, drafting technical notices, and collaborating with senior engineers. The position offers a full‑time remote working arrangement, with opportunities for international travel and participation in regular weekend working rotations.

Requirements

Education

  • High school diploma
  • Bachelor's degree in a technical subject (e.g., Computer Science, MIS, Electrical Engineering)
  • Compelling narrative alternative path

Experience

  • Experience with Linux troubleshooting (collecting logs, stack traces, editing configuration files)
  • Experience with Linux server administration
  • Experience with virtualization/cloud concepts (provisioning, monitoring, orchestration)

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support for employees from a remote home office via telephone, email, and web
  • Own new cases, ensuring they are handled according to the Service Level Agreement (SLA)
  • Draft and distribute technical notices for internal and external communication
  • Prioritise work to accomplish the most important and urgent tasks first
  • Maintain and contribute to knowledge base articles
  • Stay updated on Ubuntu development process to set realistic timelines for fixes
  • Communicate regularly with the team locally and remotely
  • Identify and suggest opportunities to improve service
  • Participate in a regular weekend working rotation
