We are seeking a Brake Design Engineer to join our vehicle engineering team in Dearborn, MI. This role is focused on the design, development, and validation of brake system components to ensure safety, performance, and durability in line with regulatory and customer expectations. As a Brake Design Engineer, you will be responsible for end-to-end development of brake hardware, including concept design, system integration, supplier coordination, and testing support. You’ll work cross-functionally with design, manufacturing, quality, and procurement teams to bring innovative braking solutions to life. Key Responsibilities: Design and develop brake components such as calipers, rotors, pads, drums, and parking brakes using CAD tools (e.g., CATIA, NX). Own the brake system from concept through production, including validation and root-cause analysis of field issues. Ensure compliance with performance, safety, cost, and durability targets. Collaborate with suppliers to define component specifications, conduct design reviews, and manage DFMEA. Support vehicle-level integration, packaging, and performance validation (NVH, thermal, wear, etc.). Contribute to continuous improvement of brake system design guidelines and standards. Coordinate testing activities with validation and test labs; support issue resolution from test results. Work with cross-functional teams including chassis, suspension, powertrain, and manufacturing. Qualifications: Required: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field. 2+ years of experience in automotive brake systems or chassis component design. Proficiency in 3D CAD software (CATIA V5/V6, Siemens NX, or similar). Understanding of material selection, tolerance stack-up, and GD&T. Familiarity with DFMEA, DVP&R, and other design quality tools. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Excellent communication and teamwork abilities. Preferred: Master’s degree in Engineering. Experience working with OEMs or Tier-1 suppliers. Knowledge of vehicle dynamics and brake system performance testing. Familiarity with manufacturing processes such as casting, forging, and machining. Nível de experiência: Pleno-sênior.
