Skills
- 8+ years of relevant professional experience across software engineering, solutions engineering, developer advocacy, technical education, or related technical roles
- 4+ years of hands‑on technical instruction: teaching engineers in live, hands‑on settings across different audience sizes and levels of technical depth
- Production engineering experience: written and shipped production code, capable of engaging with experienced engineers on architecture, implementation, debugging, and technical tradeoffs
- Recent hands‑on AI development within the past three years: built or debugged applications using LLM APIs, agent frameworks, tool use, MCP, or similar technologies
- People leadership: managed instructors, trainers, developer advocates, solutions engineers, or similar technical practitioners, including hiring, coaching, performance management, and development
- Instructor development: designed or ran a train‑the‑trainer program, instructor certification process, observation framework, or comparable system for evaluating and improving instructor quality
- Location: Based in San Francisco or willing to relocate; requires being in the SF office 3–4 days per week
Responsibilities
- Lead from the front: Deliver hands‑on technical instruction across Anthropic’s onboarding and residency programs, from 12‑person labs to 100‑person field‑readiness days
- Build the instructor bench: Hire, onboard, manage, and develop technical instructors; run the hiring loop and make renewal and conversion decisions
- Set the quality bar: Define excellent technical instruction, create and maintain observation rubric, dry‑run protocol, and cleared‑to‑teach process
- Scale through certification: Design and run train‑the‑trainer programs for internal experts, contract instructors, and facilitators from training partners
- Turn expertise into great instruction: Partner with Technical Enablement Leads to transform technical content into sessions, labs, and exercises that work in a live room
- Enable programs without owning them: Partner with onboarding and Training & Certification teams to staff programs with cleared instructors and own quality within those programs
- Measure and improve: Establish meaningful measures of learner outcomes and instructor quality; review results and act on insights
