Anthropic is looking for experienced, product‑minded engineers to own the backend systems that power user experiences across our API, Claude Code, and Claude.ai. You will independently scope complex, multi‑month projects, lead peers through technical and product decisions, drive alignment with product and research, and make architectural decisions that affect reliability and scalability of systems serving hundreds of thousands of global users. You will stay hands‑on with code and models while building and shipping backend features that support a growing AI platform.

Requirements

Skills

  • 8+ years of relevant experience as a backend or product engineer
  • Track record of leading complex, multi-month projects or teams as a tech lead or equivalent
  • Strong coding fundamentals and ability to work across backend systems, APIs, and integrations
  • Comfortable reaching into the frontend when needed to ship an effective solution
  • Experience designing and delivering large-scale backend systems in production for B2B or consumer‑facing products
  • Skill in driving alignment across technical and non‑technical teams; strong communication and influence
  • Product‑focused mindset with emphasis on robust, scalable, and user‑friendly solutions
  • Mentorship and growth focus for peers
  • Experience with distributed systems, API design, and cloud infrastructure at scale
  • Ability to thrive in fast‑paced environments and navigate ambiguity

Responsibilities

  • Own backend systems that power user experiences across the Anthropic API, Claude Code, and Claude.ai
  • Independently scope complex, multi‑month projects through ambiguous problem spaces
  • Lead peers through technical and product decisions and drive alignment with product, research, and other engineering teams
  • Make architectural decisions that affect reliability and scalability of systems serving hundreds of thousands of global users
  • Design processes that enable the team to operate effectively and avoid repeat failures
  • Stay hands‑on with code and models while shipping backend features across multiple product lines (Platform Intelligence, Platform Serving, Developer Experience, Agentic Systems, Platform Distribution, Enterprise Foundations, Platform Safety)
  • Collaborate with research to productionize frontier model capabilities and state‑of‑the‑art retrieval advancements
  • Build infrastructure and APIs for agentic applications, enterprise‑grade security, compliance, and operational capabilities
